3SGTE Celica MR2 MegaSquirtPNP Gen2 Plug and Play Standalone Engine Management System is compatible with the following USDM cars with 3S-GTE engines:

  • 1990-1991 Toyota Celica All-Trac (GT-Four) with manual transmission
  • 1991-1992 Toyota MR2 Turbo with manual transmission

These are for USDM pinouts; the pinouts we’ve found for the 1990-1992 JDM MR2 Turbo look identical. We have not tested this MSPNP on a JDM car, but from all indications it should work. Some markets used different ways to number the model years. See the ECU part number listing at the end of this entry to check if a Toyota ECU not sold in the United States or Canada is compatible.

3SGTE Celica MR2 MegaSquirtPNP Gen2 Plug and Play #TS9092 Features:

    • Fully Plug and Play Installation – No wiring required for basic functionality, other than wiring the included IAT sensor. Install time is about an hour, only exception is if you need to have someone weld in your IAT sensor’s bung for you real quick.  That’ll cost you just a few bucks at most tuner or welding shops.
    • 3S-GTE base maps is pre-loaded to help your engine start on the first turn of the key (other model base maps included on USB thumb drive)

Note: Although there is a paid upgrade to TunerStudio, it is not needed to tune this ECU. The free version included on the USB Stick can access all the features and tables of the MegaSquirtPNP. The paid version of TunerStudio simply adds tuning and analysis software, such as VE Analyzer Live to tune the fuel tables based on wideband O2 feedback (requiring a wideband O2 sensor and controller, sold separately).

Is this all I need to run the car?

  • It’s a complete package, but there are a few accessories you may want.
    • If your laptop does not have a 9 pin serial port, you will need our USB adapter.
    • The factory boost control solenoid does not allow easily changing boost levels. We recommend upgrading to our solenoid kit for improved control.
    • We recommend a wideband oxygen sensor system if you are tuning it yourself.

Questions & Answers

    It would normally use only one boost control map (based on RPM and throttle position), but if you want a high and low boost setting, you can use a switch to cut power to the boost control solenoid. With the switch off, you get wastegate pressure; with the switch on, you go off the ECU's map for increased boost.

    I am not familiar with Italian laws regarding street legality, but in the US, both of these ECUs are competition parts that are not legal for street vehicles. Please check local emissions regulations before ordering.

    The two ECUs use the same processor, tuning software, and internal code, but the MSPNP has a few extra features. The MSPNP has a number of advantages over the MicroSquirt: It is easier to install, features sequential injection for better drivability and individual cylinder fuel tuning, and has slightly more outputs available.

    For best results, yes. This one comes with a tune we have dyno tested on a relatively stock 3S-GTE motor, but it is intended more as a device to make it easier to tune for your engine's specific needs than to serve as a "canned tune" where the tune is meant to be a final product.
