DIYBOB

by DIYAutoTune.com

Do It Yourself Break Out Board

The DIYBOB is a new breakout board from DIYAutoTune.com that allows you to easily build professional looking adapter harnesses to connect the engine management of your choice to a wide variety of cars.  The DIYBOB includes an OEM style connector, circuit board, and an anodized aluminum case to finish it with a professional appearance.  Just take a short wiring harness pigtail from the ECU you want to install on the car (such as our 18" MegaSquirt pigtail harness, or a standard MicroSquirt harness), thread it in through the hole(s) in the back of the box, and solder it to the PCB. There are two holes in the back plate of the DIYBOB box, to make parallel installations easier.

The DIYBOB is a spinoff of the DIYPNP, but it allows you to create adapters for use with any ECU you'd like to use, not just a MegaSquirt or MS variant. You can use it to make an adapter for a regular wire-in MegaSquirt, including a MegaSquirt-III. Or it will work just as well with other engine management systems - you can use this with a Haltech, FAST, create a Honda ECU to Toyota harness adapter, or any other sort of adapter you might need to make your installations easier.

DIYBOBs are available for a wide variety of European, Asian, and American cars. If you don't see your car on the list, send us an email. We keep track of the requests we get and use them to plan future DIYBOB and DIYPNP models.

DIYBOB D56 (Delphi 56 Pin)

Part # DIYBOBD56-K

This is for GM cars with a 24 pin and a 36 pin connector on the ECM, such as the 1227747, 1227746, or 1227165 ECMs. It also appears to have been used on the Australian 1227808 ECM used in Holdens. We've also found it used on some Jeeps with Rennix electronics. This list is of known applications, but there may be others.

DIYBOB F60 (Ford 60 pin EEC-IV)

Part # DIYBOBF60-K

This is the Ford EEC-IV connector. This is a partial list of applications. It fits most other Fords from 1986 to 1995 with EFI, except for those with diesels or Mazda-built engines. Note that a few cars starting in 1994 have EEC-V connectors, including V6 SN95 Mustangs and modular motor Thunderbirds. Unlike other DIYBOBs, we include a used connector with these kits as the connectors are not available new.

Toyota ECUs that work with this model are typically marked "26T-16T-12T-22T," often with one or more of these numbers omitted, along the lower edge of the ECU identification sticker. Note that the pins in the 12 pin connector must be aligned with the pins in the 16 pin connector, or in the lower rows on the 22 or 26 pin connector. Note that Toyota also uses a connector called the 26T-16T-12T where the 12 pin connector contains wider pins that sit higher up; the DIYBOBN76-K is not compatible with this style connector. We're weeded out the applications suspected of using this connector; as we check up on them, some may be put back on the list.

We'll be quickly following with more models.  We're eyeing the connectors used on:

  • The 35, 68, and 88 pin Bosch Motronic Connectors used in a ton of cars, mostly European.
