Lead Bending Tool This inexpensive lead bending tool will come in very handy when building up your MegaSquirt kit or any electronics kit. It helps you to quickly bend the leads of 1/4 and 1/2 watt resistors, diodes, capacitors, inductors, etc to the exact measurements you need to be able to drop them into the PCB. The tool is designed with radiused edges to prevent unnecessary stress on the component leads when bending them. This can help with the longevity of the assembled unit as the leads are less likely to break later and are less vibration sensitive. Note -- all DIYAutoTune.com kits are labeled with the appropriate spacing for the leads to be bent to. This is the blue number in the bottom left of the label. See the label key for more information. This lead bender can be used to bend the majority of the Megasquirt ECU parts, however the components marked .2" and .3" will need to be bent using a pair of needle nose pliers in a similar manner to how you use the lead bending tool. Just hold the component with your thumb against the jaw of the needle nose pliers and bend the leads around the jaw. Do this close to the tip of the pliers for .2" components, and a little further down where the jaw is wider for .3" components. |
